Fishing Report – Thursday 21st June 2007
Yesterday’s open match saw some good weights from the Top Lake with Mick Seymour emptying it from peg26 on the back spit. He fished the feeder across to the far bank and caught fish all afternoon to finish with a very good weight of 187 lbs. Here’s a picture to prove that there really are a lot of fish in the Top Lake (and don’t panic, the fish were on thick, lush grass, they’d been kept in 4 large keepnets and were very quickly returned to the water)

Speaking of fish pictures, Paul gave me these 2 pictures of fish caught on the Main Lake but he didn’t give me the names of the anglers.
Today I’ve spent my day in the company of a Gentleman. Last year I bought “A day fishing with Steve Ringer” at a charity auction and it took a year or so for us to fix the date. The day finally arrived and I’ve had a smashing day. Bearing in mind that it’s much easier to catch fish on a pleasure day rather than a match, we gave him a bit of a handicap and sat him on peg 10 on the Top Lake. It’s a peg that hasn’t produced for quite a while now, there’s often fish in the area but nobody could get them to feed. Mr Ringer did !!. We’d decided that Steve should give a masterclass on fishing the method feeder. It’s something that I’m never confident with, so it seemed an ideal opportunity to watch how it should be done. Things started fairly slowly and it was only after we estimated that he’d already caught 15 carp after about 2 hours that it became obvious that he was in the process of building a big weight. I’ve no idea how many he caught by the end of the day, we’d stopped counting but it was lots !!. It’s amazing what you can learn by watching a good angler doing what he does well. There wasn’t one single thing that I had been doing wrong, it’s a combination of things that I’m sure will make a huge difference next time I try fishing the feeder. Here’s a couple of pictures of the man in action. I didn’t get the camera from the car until it got towards the end of the day, so I was desperate to get a picture before we packed up and I managed to take a picture of the ugliest fish in the lake. Whoever ate half his tail would they please give it back !. Thanks Steve, I enjoyed every minute and you’re a true gentleman.
