Saturday 21st April – World Sailfish Tournament Day Three
Saturday 21st April - World Sailfish Tournament Day Three
Sadly, the third day of the tournament didn't go any better than the first two. The team caught one sailfish today, giving a grand total of two fish. We think that the winning total was around 10 fish. The most exciting part of the day was that they managed to fly their kite at last. They even had a bit of excitement when Harry screamed "sails", everybody looked for the sailfish but it was actually a sailboat that sailed under their kite between the two baits hanging from it. It would have been a better story if they'd actually caught the sailboat, it would have been the biggest catch of the week.
OK, down to the serious fishing. I went out with Graham on Capt. Manny's boat. We had a really enjoyable day. We started by catching a few bait fish in the harbour and then we motored out to the Marquesa's Islands where Manny displayed the art of throwing a cast net. They make it look so easy but I guarantee that it takes years practice. Here's a picture of how it's done

We then motored another half hour out to a spot on the reef. We had a great day catching Yellowtail Snappers, Groupers, Bonito plus Graham played a huge Kingfish for 45 minutes before it was lost about 10 feet from the boat. We were catching fish all day, a perfect day in paradise.
Dave and Jim went out with Chris. They were catching Yellowtails whilst Chris dropped a little livebait to the bottom and caught a very handsome Black Grouper held here by Jim
They also added another species to the ever growing list with a Barjack shown here

Tom and Mick were out with Pat and had a fairly quiet day, hooking lots of bottom fish such as Groupers and losing most of them in the rocks on the bottom.
One last bit of news. Harry's wife has arrived for a few days with the lads. Roy told me not to mention this because his wife always asks if she can come. He didn't offer me any sort of an incentive to keep quiet, so you read it here first !!
