Is there a salt loving bacteria there will grow when salt is added to the roads during the winter months?
We have an RO system used for a water purification step. The membranes foul frequently when applications of road salt are used. I am on the east coast which just got hammered with over 24 inches of snow..twice! I can tell when the salt hits the system as the IC increases. It is a short time after this that the membranes will foul. I know it is an organic problem because a hot sanitization will clear the membranes. Pressures are reduced, flow increases as well as rejection rates are back in line. I know there are halobacteria in salt ponds based on certain conditions, but what is the culprit here?
